Frequently asked questions

How do I upload an image?

You can upload an image by clicking the upload zone, dragging and dropping an image file, or pasting an image from your clipboard using Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac). Supported formats include JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and AVIF (HEIC only in Safari), up to 20 MB and 50 megapixels. Images over 4096 pixels on the longest side are scaled down.

Is my image data safe?

Yes. Your image is processed entirely in your browser and is never uploaded to our server. Your theme choice and selected colors are saved only in your browser (local storage); clearing your browser's site data removes them. This tool contains no analytics or advertising trackers. Like every website, our server and Cloudflare, which delivers and protects the site, process technical data such as your IP address and browser type, and Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie. How many colors can I select?

You can select up to 10 colors for your personal palette; picking an 11th drops the oldest one and says so. The tool automatically generates a 10-color palette from your image, and you can click on any pixel to add it to your selected colors collection. Press Ctrl+Z to undo a change.

What color formats are supported?

The Color Picker supports HEX, RGB, and HSL color formats. You can copy any color value with a single click, and export your entire palette as a PNG image for use in your design projects.

Does the tool work on mobile devices?

Yes! The Color Picker is fully responsive and works on smartphones and tablets. The interface adapts to smaller screens, and you can still pick colors by tapping on the image.

Which keyboard shortcuts are there?

Press Tab until the image has focus, then use the arrow keys to move the picker one pixel at a time (hold Shift for ten at a time) and Enter or Space to add the color under it. Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on Mac) undoes the last change to your selected colors. With a swatch in Selected Colors focused, Delete or Backspace removes just that one. Ctrl+V pastes an image from your clipboard, and Esc closes the download menu.
